Salary Incentives and Increases: While the base rate is listed in each position description to your right, there are ways to increase that weekly rate.
- Earn a $500 bonus by accepting your offered position by January 15 for returning staff and February 15 for new staff. This bonus will be awarded upon completion of the summer season of employment.
- Increase the weekly rate of any position by $5/week for each returning year on staff.
- Increase the weekly rate of any position by $10/week for participating in and passing the high ropes certification course at the start of the summer.
- Increase the weekly rate of any position by $10/week by being a certified lifeguard. Not certified yet but want to be? Reach out to henris@luthercrest.org to see how you can be refunded for lifeguard certification classes you take on your own.
General Summer Staff Schedule:
- Support Staff training is from May 24 - June 1 including the weekend.
- All staff training is from June 2-15 including the weekend.
- The summer camp season is from June 16 - August 10.
- Time off includes Friday nights-Sunday mornings and the week of June 30-July 6.
SUMMER STAFF POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
Faith Formation Leader ($415/week)
- This position spends each day surrounded by youth, faith, and the outdoors, providing a safe atmosphere where youth find unique opportunities to grow in faith and experience God’s love through community and creation.
- Responsible directly to the Program Director. Leads faith formation for campers in cabins and on day camps, with duties including:
Programmatic Duties
- Travel as part of a Day Camp Team to lead faith formation at a church off-site
- Lead faith formation in a small group-cabin setting with youth ages K-12 grade, staying in the cabin with the campers and guiding them through programming
- Be the main caretaker for your cabin or day camp group each week
General Duties
- Model Christian faith formation for campers through leading Bible studies, devotionals, and worships
- Model teamwork and group development through leading games, challenge course activities, and educational break-out sessions
- Be present with campers at meal times
- Lead “filler” activities during transition times
- Assist in all areas of the summer program as needed including fulfilling a support staff role if necessary
- Expect to be on various on-site and day camp programs throughout the summer, alternating according to the needs of programming. Expect to spend around half of the summer on day camps

Trip and Travel Faith Formation Leader ($415/week)
- This position spends each day surrounded by youth, faith, and the outdoors, providing a safe atmosphere where youth find unique opportunities to grow in faith and experience God’s love through community and creation.
- Responsible directly to the Program Director. Leads faith formation for campers in trip and travel programming including Xtreme camp and Wet n’ Wild, with duties including:
Programmatic Duties
- Lead faith formation in a small group-cabin setting with youth ages 7-12 grade, staying in the cabin with the campers and guiding them through programming
- Be the main caretaker for your cabin or day camp group each week
- Lead campers on off site trips for the Xtreme program
- Accompany high schoolers to the ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans
- Lead the Wet n’ Wild river trip program including
- Leading canoeing and setting up camp sites
- Managing a decentralized schedule, leading activities throughout the day like worship, bible dive, games, and environmental education while one the river
- Drive camp vehicles to transport campers
General Duties

Witnesses Coordinator ($430/week)

- Maintain a clean and safe waterfront environment including daily beach cleaning, daily inventory of the boathouse, and inspection of waterfront equipment

- Handle medical emergencies at the waterfront in collaboration with Health Care Manager and lifeguard team

- Oversee all recreational activities such as swimming, paddle boarding, and supervising Lifeguards assigned to the waterfront

- Responsible directly to the Program Director. Oversees all health care needs within the summer program, with duties including:

- Maintain inventory medical supplies and daily/weekly stocking of first aid kits, and medical logs
- Health care administrative duties such as filing and organizing camper and staff health forms and medical information

Programmatic Duties

- Responsible directly to the Program Director. Oversees all Luther Crest’s environmental education and creation care components within summer programming, with duties including:

- Be a Lifegroup leader for a group of FFLs throughout the summer
- Organize the Nature Center and Trail Shack and care for Luther Crest’s resident Nature Room camping equipment
Programmatic Duties
- Lead environmental-focused programmed activities including specific Environmental education activities for each age group
- Oversee Nature Center for activity time, devotions, and all other times it’s in use
- Assist in preparations for cook-out meals
- Oversee all needs for overnight camping including prepping equipment and sites, training and support of staff, clean up and maintenance, and all other needs as they arise
- Work in collaboration with Specialty Director to oversee needs of river trips and Xtreme camping trips
- Coordinate with Activities Coordinator for campouts, cookouts, high ropes, and Earth Play needs

**If this position is filled by a current Seminary Student, this position will also assume the role of Summer Chaplain.**
- Responsible directly to the Program Director. Plans and oversees all onsite worships and Bible Dive preparation, with duties including:

- Organize and prepare all Bible study materials and oversee Bible study and worship supply inventories, communicating resupply needs to Program Director

- Oversee and assist in the planning of specialty worships such as campout worships, opening and closing worships, and Women’s Week worships
- Assign roles for worship experiences among the summer staff

- Assist in posting camp activities online to an online audience in collaboration with Communications and Marketing Director
- Monitor and manage the Luther Crest Bunk1 platform, ensuring content is taken and uploaded in collaboration with Program Coordinators and Communications and Marketing Director
- Manage social media (Facebook, Instagram, BTF, etc.) announcements in collaboration with Communications and Marketing Director
- Print, fold, and distribute camper mail in collaboration with Communications and Marketing Director

- Assist in all areas of the summer program if needed including fulfilling the role of a Faith Formation Leader if needed
Requirements
- Must possess good physical stamina with long hours and the majority of time spent outdoors.
- Must have experience with photography and/or videography
- Will be asked to submit a small portfolio that highlights their experience in photography, videography, or media/design.
- Currently enrolled in a photography area of study/graduated with a degree in this area (preferred)
- Willing to get high ropes/lifeguard certifications (preferred)
Weekend Coordinator (Start date: 07/05/2024 (negotiable)) ($160/weekend)
- Responsible directly to the Program Director. Coordinates and supervises weekend programming and staff, with duties including:
Administrative Duties
- Communicate with the Year Round Staff in order to ensure that weekend group details are prepared and implemented in a timely manner
- Facilitate weekend registration/check-in processes
General Duties
- Set up, introduce, and facilitate areas of camp programming (games and activities, arts and crafts, worship) which will be planned by Year Round Staff
- Manage camper care and weekend staffing needs
- Address concerns with staff brought up by Weekend Staff in coordination with Year Round Staff
Requirements
- Must be 18(+) years of age
- Have completed 1 year of college or equivalent experience beyond High School
- Must possess good physical stamina with long hours and the majority of time spent outdoors
- 1+ year of experience in Outdoor Ministry (preferred)
- Willing to get lifeguard/high ropes certified (preferred)
Assistant Cook (Start date: negotiable) ($16.25/hour)
- Responsible directly to Food Service Manager. Assist with meals, snacks, and kitchen responsibilities, with duties including:
General Duties
- Assist with meal preparation during Luther Crest’s staff training weeks and camper weeks throughout the summer
- Work with Luther Crest’s Food Service Manager and Hospitality Manager to divide out kitchen shifts and meal responsibilities
- Fill in in the dish room when needed
Requirements
- Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen (preferred)
- Food Service or Safe Serve certifications or willingness to get them (preferred)
High School Onsite Day Camp Faith Formation Leader
- This position spends each day surrounded by youth, faith, and the outdoors, providing a safe atmosphere where youth find unique opportunities to grow in faith and experience God’s love through community and creation.
- Responsible directly to the Program Director and the Onsite Day Camp Coordinator. Leads faith formation for campers in the onsite day camp program, with duties including:
Programmatic Duties
- Lead faith formation in a small group setting with youth ages K-5th grade, guiding campers through programming
General Duties
- Model Christian faith formation for campers through leading Bible studies, devotionals, and worships
- Model teamwork and group development through leading games, arts and crafts, and other activities
- Be present with campers at meal times
- Lead “filler” activities during transition times
- Assist in all areas of the summer program as needed
Requirements
- Must have transportation to/from camp each day (no onsite lodging, arrive at 8AM, leave after programming finishes at 5PM)
- Must possess good physical stamina with long hours and the majority of time spent outdoors.
Dish Washer (Start date: negotiable)
- Responsible directly to Food Service Manager. Clean and put away dishes after meals and assist in cleaning the kitchen and dining hall, with duties including:
General Duties
- Wash dishes during Luther Crest’s staff training weeks and camper weeks throughout the summer
- Work with Luther Crest’s Food Service Manager and Hospitality Manager to divide out shifts and responsibilities
- Take out the kitchen garbage and recycling
- Assist the Food Service Manager with random kitchen tasks

- Be able to stand up for at least 1 hour at a time
- Carry at least 20 lbs
